Mission-critical information systems should not depend on overnight or other batch processing. STAR processes are dynamic, so all newly entered or newly modified data are indexed or otherwise processed immediately, and the results of such processing are available immediately to all users.

Dynamic Processing

STAR's processing of data is dynamic; it does not rely on overnight or other batch processing.

One major benefit of dynamic processing is the immediate, automatic indexing of newly entered or newly modified data, which makes new information available for searching by all users as soon as it has been entered.

Another major benefit is in data validation. STAR can identify terms that are not official values in the authority database and can provide for the dynamic generation of "picklist" reports from authority databases, to help the staff to decide about the possible inclusion of new terms.

Automatic processes are also important for global operations—operations used to add, delete, or update data in one or more fields of selected records. As data are globally imported or changed, STAR automatically re-indexes the new data so that users will always retrieve the most current data.
